My grandmother and my mother taught me to knit and crochet when I was about ten years old. I loved it and even back then I made all kinds of things: sweaters, cardigans, bags, curtains… you name it.
During my teenage years, handcrafting took a bit of a back seat. Other things came along, and other priorities. 😉 When the kids were little, I still made the occasional thing, but time was usually the biggest problem.
About four years ago, that changed. I got sick with Long Covid and suddenly had a lot more time. To have something to do with my hands, I picked up my crochet hook and knitting needles again.
In the beginning, I mainly worked with existing patterns. But it wasn't long before I started itching to design something myself. Working out an idea, trying it, unraveling it again, and starting over… I really love that.
And then I thought: why not write those designs out?
That's how my first own patterns came about. If I can make others happy with them too, and use the proceeds to buy new yarn, then the circle is nicely complete. That way my hobby keeps sustaining itself a little.
